poor design/quality hardware, soft finish(black), mehFeb 03, 2011

I was excited about an American made bike part. I installed the fenders on a mtb from the late eighties. the tires on it are 2.1" and the fenders leave plenty of room, unfortunately too much and unevenly. These fenders are designed to attach to the axle of your bicycle.
Mounting the fender to existing frame eyelets is possible, but will require cutting of metal, and possibly drilling holes in the steel struts (2 included per fender, each has two legs, one for left side and one for right side of bike ). Each strut has a small hole, appropriate in size for the M5 (5mm diameter) bolt that your frame's fender eyelets likely are threaded for, but from a cursory look, these holes are only in the correct spot for some of the struts, so to mount to eyelets, I must drill holes in the steel. For some frames, depending on location of fender eyelets, you may need to drill holes in all of the mounting struts(i.e. 8 holes).
I mounted the fenders to the axles for the time being, though to aid flat changes, I might spend some more time when I'm feeling ambitious and mount the fenders to the eyelets, also fixing the inconsistent distance from tire to fender.
The biggest complaint I have with these fenders is the inconsistent distance from the axle to the fender. Since my tires are ideal according to the manufacturers website for these fenders, and because wheels are effectively circles, I would expect that the distance between the tire and the fender to be the same for each of the struts(i.e. radius of the circle), however this is not the case. the gap between my correct sized tires is large in some places and even bigger in others, making for an unattractive installation even though I am doing everything as intended and using the fenders on an appropriate bike.
Another complaint is that the hardware uses flat head screws and nylock nuts. As you attempt to attach the hardware to the fender using a flathead screwdriver, and pushing and turning somewhat hard to thread through the nylock nuts, There's a really good chance the screwdriver will slip and you'll put a big scratch in the relatively soft finish(as I did); in order to not have this problem, you must have incredibly strong and patient hands, as even trying to avoid the screwdriver slipping once you know its a concern is very difficult. This is probably not a problem for the chrome fenders, but only the black ones.
No bolt was included that is long enough to attach the fenders to the crown of my fork. No hardware is included to mount the fenders to the seatstay bridge, so in addition to drilling holes in the fenders themselves, you'll need to come up with some mounting bracket if you wish to install the fenders in a manner consistent with how nearly all modern fenders mount.

My brother installed these on my shorty mountain bike so I could ride to class in the snow. They are durable, easy to install and I have no worries about them breaking, getting stolen etc.
Nice to show up at class without snow and slush up my back.
Highly recommended.

fendersDec 13, 2008
By Arla Thomas Great for the big tires. They take a special frame and fork though. They don't fit just anything.
Very large fendersMay 12, 2012
By Logan R. Freijo I have a hybrid Schwinn 26" bike (target brand). I bought this pair because they are listed for tires that are 2 to 2.125 inches in width; mine are very close at 1.95". However these are huge. They are about 3.5" across at the bottom and would not fit my frame. Even if I had bent them to fit they would have looked ridiculous.
I sent them back and ordered the Wald 952-26 Standard Bicycle Fenders (26-Inch, Chrome). The 952-26 (middleweight) fenders state they fit 1.25 to 1.75" widths, but clearly they are off too. The middleweight fit fine.
Since the actual measurements of the fenders are not available here or from Wald's own site, I would suggest ordering with caution. Unless you have a very large fork opening look somewhere else.
