5Awesome bagApr 04, 2009
By Brendan
I commute a couple of miles to class, sometimes by bike and sometimes by motorcycle. I started noticing some cracks and scratches on the outside of my Macbook and new I needed a bad that would give my laptop more protection. I decided to go ahead and suck it up and spend the 100 dollars on this bag, hoping it would save my computer in the long run.

Oddly enough, the next day I was in a motorcycle accident on the way home from class. I went flying and rolling across the road with my Timbuk2 and laptop on my back, while my motorcycle ended up tangled up with the bottom of a pickup truck. I took out my laptop and to my amazement there was not only no damage to the laptop, but not even a scratch on the outside of the bag as I slid down the road.

When adjusted properly, the bag is incredibly comfortable. The pockets are perfectly placed, and the laptop being in the separate compartment offers extra protection. Probably the first and last expensive bag I'll ever own. Great product

5The best laptop messenger bags bar noneJul 19, 2009
By RonAnnArbor
I am a laptop bag junky and am never satisfied with bags for my Macbooks and Macbook Pros over the years. I fell in love with Timbuk2 bags years ago, and they just get better with age.

The Medium bag is slighly snugger for full-size macbook pros, although they will fit. They are better for macbook airs and Macbooks. Look at the Large commute for macbook pros and older powerbooks.

There are no messenger bags out there right now that have as many pockets and so much storage space that are this well-protected and light. They are well-balanced when worn over your shoulder, and conform to your body the longer you wear it, whether that is on your back on a bicycle, or at your side for your commute.

The newest versions of these bags now have two sections -- a separate zip section in the back for your laptop, and a front section for carrying everything else. This is a great design change as your laptop rides safe and protected in its own home, away from your other belongings. (Its also safer to carry your sweaty gym clothes home now, since they won't be touching your computer -- come on, admit it, we know some of you do that).

Very highly recommended.

3Well made bag, not really set up for serious bike commutingNov 18, 2009
By Tom Fred "fredthom"
This bag is very well built, and is ideal for a 15" laptop (my MBP fits nicely, along with accessories and few essentials + book and files). Like the key pocket and clip, and the assortment of pockets and the large zippered compartment works well. However, when I was shopping for a bag, I assumed a TB2 "messenger bag" would be tailored for cyclists. I was disappointed that a second chest/hip strap was not standard, something I consider a must for stability when riding my bike to work. I ordered the TB2 strap directly, it helps, but without d-rings to connect to the body of the bag, it is a makeshift solution.

Bottom-line for me: A well-designed bag for riding the bus or walking to work or as a good carry-on with the laptop; not the best "messenger" bag for cyclists.

5Timbuk2 Commute- Great BagMar 06, 2010
By Gadget Lover "Vinny"
I was fortunate enough to find this item (the discontinued Commute) still available in the medium sized all black model. I have it less than 1 week but I can already tell it will last a lifetime. The design is generous and intelligent. The materials are top notch. The construction is flawless. Thank you Timbuk2!

4Very good bagMay 13, 2010

I bought this medium Commute messenger bag for use as a briefcase. As an engineering consultant, I travel about 50% of the time and live out of my briefcase.

Construction - Seems very well made. Finish is great. No loose threads or poor seams.

Comfort - Good. Shoulder strap is comfortable, but the woven nylon can slip off my shoulder. Having a grippier pad would be nice.

Use/Features - Excellent. Lots of pockets and compartments. Seems very well thought out. Ease of getting my laptop out for airport x-ray is EXCELLENT! No need to open the main bag, just unzip the back and slide out the laptop.
