A rear view mirror is a MUST for anyone riding with traffic.
HELMET mirrors are NOT for everyone as they do require some getting used to. It took me at least 2-3 rides before I got used to it. I've been using one since 2003 and do not feel safe without one.
Helmet mirrors do a better job as you can still have a blind spot with the bicycle mounted mirrors - I have my helmet mirror set so I can see my shoulder and the side of my head. This gives me a clear view of traffic behind and to my right. By turning my head 30 degrees to my right, I completely "sweep" to all lanes on my left side.
I've tried this and the Blackburn helmet mirror. This one is definitely better.
MINUS
- Does not remove (the Blackburn pops off the base so you can remove it offroading, for example. Don't lose it!)
PLUS
- Shorter arm is stiffer than Blackburn (it's an I-Beam section)
- Adjustment range is better than Blackburn
- Lighter mirror vibrates less than Blackburn
Note: The helmets I have used them on are the Giro Atmos, Giro Animas, Bell Forza II and Bell Phi II

Although I messed up installing the mirror the first time, once installed I have used the mirror for over six months, traveling over 1,000 miles, with no problems. It has stayed attached to my Trek helmet perfectly. Unless I hit the mirror, in my clumsy fashion, it always stays in position. Parts and repairs are readily available. I would never bike without a mirror of this type--it can save your life!

I didn't really "get it" with this item. The mounting pad is relatively large and stiff and doesn't conform well to the curves of the helmet. Two 3M "stickies" are provided, but it's very difficult to remove the paper protectors from the adhesive double sided tape without damaging it (I ruined the first piece just trying to get the papers off of it). There need to be more instructions on handling the adhesive material, and discussion of strategies for selecting a good attachment location. When you finally glue the large paddle-like pad onto the helmet (in my case, a Bell Metropolitan), various air vents and curves make for a less than perfect attachment, and off it comes after a day or two. While it WAS attached for a while, the mirror worked well enough.

This very light weight miror is positioned so that I never really need to turn my head more than a couple inches to see what might be coming up from behind. The purchase of this mirror has turne out to be one of the most valuable pieces of my cycling gear. I will never ride without a mirror again. I use the same bike helmet for roller skiing, and the same is true under those circumstances. The one thing that I did differently than instructed is that I actually used some small sheet metal screws to more securely hold it to the inside my helmet.

Great mirror for the price. One thing that I didn't see anyone talk about is getting it on the correct side of your helmet. I'm a right hand and right eyed person, but thinking that traffic would almost always be on my left, I stuck this on my left, bad idea. If you do not use your dominate eye for this mirror, it'll be almost impossible to focus in on whats being reflected in the mirror. Good thing, this product comes with two double sided tapes :)
