flimsy lock, too small for books, but it's a start. full suspesion bike recommendedFeb 24, 2012

The flimsy plastic lock retaining mechanism thing broke in less than a year of riding about once or twice a week or so. I just happened to be cleaning it when I noticed that the plastic lock thing broke off. Tried gluing it back on, nothing. Don't expect this to be very theft-resistant. Seeing that the rest of the box seems pretty sturdy, I think, for this price level, this is a major design flaw that needs to be fixed. Of course, it's still going to be a lot more theft-resistant than a bunch of panniers left on your bike, so I'll give them that. By the way, don't expect to be able to carry any books in that thing unless you leave the lid open during the ride (and risk the books flying out when you hit a large bump). But it's still great for storing things like helmets and gloves when it's locked up, and you can keep your lock in the box. It weighs about 3-5 pounds, so it's lighter than I thought, a nice plus I guess (though that doesn't make up for the cheapo lock...) Another thought: the red sticker on the back isn't retro-reflective or anything. If it would, that would be a nice addition. you can get retro-reflective tape on ebay or something though
