5Perfect replacement for Shimano MF-HG37 for dealing with steep hillsAug 19, 2009
By Wayne Bengston
I replaced a Shimano MF-HG37 14-28T freewheel with one of these, using a Park Tools FR-1 Freewheel Remover for Shimano Freewheels. The job took maybe 5 minutes and the bike now has a 34 tooth "bail-out" gear for climbing steep hills. It was a direct bolt-on replacement and no adjustments were needed, except to increase the tension of the rear derailer, so as to clear the 34 tooth sprocket. Shifting is as crisp as it was before.

Be aware that you will need a "mountain bike" syle rear derailer for use with this freewheel. Most comfort bikes, hybrids, and, of course, mountain bikes, will have this style derailer.

Also, this is a freewheel, not a cassette. If you don't know the difference, you should find out before buying this.

5Shimano qualityMay 18, 2011

Bought it for the shear durability I've encountered in the past. Set on a shimano hub and sun rhino rim. Haven't had the chain grab between gears once and the teeth are wearing slow and even. Don't ride alot, but when I do it hard (have the X-rays to prove it). Just keep in mind you need a mega range derailer if your switching from a standard freewheel. The little bit extra size is great to have at higher speeds.
