Best inexpensive rack out thereJul 28, 2008

This is probably the best inexpensive rack out there especially for commuting: easy to install, takes bungees and baskets, good with most panniers out there, holds a u-lock really well too. Will stand up to light touring. Unless you're into long-distance, heavy touring, I doubt you'll need anything else.
This model is *not* for bikes with disc brakes.
Some tips: spend two bucks at a hardware store bigger washers and tougher nuts and bolts; the supplied ones are fine, but not ideal for heavy use. You may need to bend the upper set of sliding arms to get the thing flat, but those don't carry any vertical weight anyways.

great but not oversizedApr 27, 2009
By S. Srivastava great product. company also donates 25% of its proceeds to charitable causes. made of recycled aluminum.
two minuses (but didnt make me want to give this less than 5 stars): 1) not oversized really. normal size-- didnt matter to me. 2) didnt come with instructions. easy enough, but I had to adjust it after realizing it was interfering with my chain. no problem ever since.

Great simple rack, easy to install, rugged, reasonably priced.
Made of recycled aluminium too!
This thing will last as long as my bike.

Not a good choice for panniersSep 11, 2010
By Ersin M. Ulke Generally, this is a good rack for the money. But, it has a design flaw that I didn't notice until I tried to hang panniers from it. The rear support bar meets the rack platform about 1 inch before the end of the platform, folds and wraps around the back of the rack. There is an inch in the back where the aluminum tubes are doubled (look closely). This inch of double tube is not conducive to attaching panniers. So, the last inch of the rack is lost for attachment resulting in 1 inch less of heel clearance for the panniers.

Not bad for the price -- modification requiredAug 21, 2011

This is not a bad rack at all. In fact, I can sit on this rack with my full weight (180 # on a good day). I would not want to ride my bike like that, but this rack will carry a lot more weight than stated.
Several reviewers have said, "This is not an over-sized rack." Read the description. It says that this rack (of normal size) is structured from over-sized tubular aluminum.
I would have given this rack five stars but for this: It is hardly a universal fit. Of course, with hundreds of bike designs out there in the real world, what rack could fit everything? Really. I had to modify the front steel braces to fit into the screw hole of what I assume would be the rear fender mount, if I were to install a rear fender.
Oh, here's a note of caution. The mounting kit comes with two shorter screws and two longer for attaching the bottom struts to the dropout. The longer screw might protrude into dangerous territory (ie, the location of your rear cassette and chain -- see pictures), and the shorter screw actually stripped the upper threads. I thereafter used the longer screw instead, and everything has worked well so far.
The rack is very useful, lightweight, sturdy beyond specs, and truly a gem at this price. I would imagine with the included hardware that it would fit most bikes without much hassle.
