 Park PCS9 Home Repair Stand Good BuyNov 09, 2007

The Park PCS9 stand is great. I have only had mine a week and it is already
making my bicycle repair work much easier. I would recommend getting a handle-bar stabilizer to hold front wheel in the straight position. They start at about $15.00. I have been using a Velcro strap and it is not working all that well. Ride Safe!

The Park PCS-9 Stand is solid, simple and well built. It holds my bike solidly in whatever position I need and has enough adjustability to accommodate whatever position I need. I bought the handle bar holder after reading another customers review and was glad I did. The combination does everthing I need at a reasonable price. I have only been using it for a few weeks, so I don't know how it will hold up. However, my initial impressions are good and I believe it is made to last. Note, when not in use, the legs "dangle" freely. If you plan to move it around a lot, you will want to use a strap to secure them. Its a minor inconvenience considering the price.

I went with this stand strictly because of price and I trust Park Tools products. The clamp works great.
You have to use a hex key to lengthen and shorten the vertical tube as advertised, which can be a bit of a hassle if you are constantly using and storing the stand. it wobbles if you are abusing the pedals of the bike, but I never fear the stand will topple over. for a shop mechanic or someone who will get hours and hours of use from a repair stand, you might want to upgrade to a sturdier stand.
It is a pain to store. the bracket on the bottom that holds the vertical tube to the legs slides up and down when u release the button. however, when you try to raise the bracket the legs just fall on the hinge. there is nothing holding them in place. if you put pressure on the stand when the legs are open, sometimes they get pinched in the bracket and stay in position when picking it up off the ground or sliding the bracket up. otherwise everytime u want to put the stand away, you raise the bracket, the legs flop down to vertical.
the other issue is, once you release the button and slide the bracket up, there is nothing keeping it up by the clamp. there should be another button up top to clip the bracket into place so you can carry the stand without the bracket falling and the legs flopping around.
for those, like me, who are just going to take it out once or twice a month to do some minor repair, lubrication, or cleaning, its great. For the price, it is worth taking the 2-3 minutes trying to put the stand away with all the flopping and sliding. once its up, its great!

Park Tools make the best bike repair tools in the business -- period. They may be a bit more expensive, but they are well worth it.
After vacillating back and forth between the PCS-10 and PCS-9, I decided I would save some money and get the lower end unit. I have not been disappointed. It is incredibly sturdy, and was very easy to assemble. It only took 20 minutes from unpacking to final screw. The nylon ring/collapsible leg feature is actually quite genius. Don't be confused by other reviews, this is a fully collapsible stand. The feet swing downwards, and the metal bracket which the feet are attached to unlocks out of place with the push of a spring clip, and the bottom of the unit slides up the main post for easy storage.
This is a rock-solid stand, and while many will not mind spending the extra $30 or so for the quick-release mechanisms of the PCS-10, this unit will suit virtually any home bike mechanic.
Another great Park Tools product.

This stand is undoubtedly a good value for the price. It is fairly well built, and holds a bicycle relatively steady so that one can work on it. The only thing that is somewhat annoying is that an allen wrench (provided) has to used to adjust the height of the thing--a fly-wheel would have been more user friendly.
But my big gripe is with the terrible customer service at Park Tool. One of the pieces came to me with what was obvioiusly a factory defect--it was deeply scratched, despite being sealed and padded in the factory packaging. When I contacted Park Tool, they refused to do anything, except to sell me a new replacement part at full price; and then to add insult to injury, they rambled on about how their customer service was "second to none." This sort of stuff is what led Circuit City into bankruptcy!
Well, my saga has a happy ending: the Amazon seller I bought the stand from (BikeSomeWhere) is getting a replacement part and sending it to me at no charge! They certainly have their heads on straight!
