this is not a bike lock, it is a seat leash...read belowApr 13, 2008
By D. Goldstein These other two reviewers could not be more wrong. One end of the cable is meant to go underneath the saddle and then passed through the loop on the other side of the cable. This creates a noose around your seat. Then, you take the loop on the long end and secure it on a U lock. For those of us that live in a city and have nice seats this a great device for making sure nobody steals your $50 saddle. This is not a bike lock. On the packaging it reads, "...prevents theft of quick-release seats".

Works great for its intended use....as a saddle cableFeb 03, 2009

I bike to a light rail station in greater Los Angeles every day where I lock up my bike and take the train to work. A few years ago I purchased a very cheap used bike -- the type no one should wish to steal -- for this purpose. Even though the cheap bike had a junk saddle (and not even quick release!), some punk twisted the seat and post back and forth until the post popped out of the seat tube, then ripped it off. I've since noticed several other bikes locked up at my stop with missing saddles and seat posts. I suppose that ripping off someone's junk saddle and post must really inspire a great deal of pleasure in some people.
I've since purchased a new, nicer bike that I use for that portion of my commute. My new bike's saddle is, once again, not quick release, but I purchased this cable anyway to spare me the pain of biking home without a saddle and having to shop for a new one. I use it in combination with the Kryptonite New York Fuhgettaboutit U-Lock and another thicker cable lock to secure both wheels. Obviously this cable is not intended to secure an entire bike as other reviewers have suggested. However, it does work great for keeping your saddle connected to your bike. So far I've had no problems. I'll update this review if that ever changes.

Good for securing a seat, but measure the length carefullyJan 13, 2011
By Sasha On a cruiser or female bikes with sloping upper frame this cable may be too short to reach the underside of the seat, which is how you need to secure it (you need to unscrew the seat from the seatpost to attach it). So make sure you measure the necessary distance and have the right tools (most likely an allen wrench/hex key.) It was barely, barely long enough for my cruiser.

Nice Saddle cableMar 11, 2012
By Juancts Nice quality sadle cable. Guys, this is a bike seat security cable. It is not intened to protect your bike against theft, just your saddle.

works wellJun 16, 2011
By careyandtim I use this, along with a cheap luggage combo lock, to secure my seat and a wedge pack to my bike. It barely fits but does what I want it to do. I realize it's not super secure but it's mostly intended to prevent opportunistic theft.
