Description:

Kool-Stop sintered metal disc brake pads are designed to give your bike performance braking in extreme conditions, e.g. XC, downhill, trials and dual slalom riding. Our pads have a quick break-in period so you get maximum performance during those demanding rides when stopping power, durability and long pad life are required. Sintered metal compounds have a higher resistance to brake fluid contamination and should not be used on Ceradure® ceramic rotors or in closed hydraulic systems.

5Kool Stop Replacement Brake Pads KS-D270AJan 29, 2009
By L. TORRE
I have been using these pads since 2007. I am very happy with the longevity and braking ability. They don`t scream like the original pads that came with my brakes! I put these to the test in Costa Rica (La Ruta De Los Conquistadores 2007). Four days, 225 miles later, I still had some pad left. Many people burned through their pads after one stage, not I. I called the company and told them that I was riding in the race, they hooked me up with a pair, free! How cool is that? My $.02......

Side by side comparison with stock Formula Oro pads I cannot tell a difference. I have stocked up and bought 3 sets of these pads. I will buy more of these just a great deal. They stop very well and I do not squeal. Wear is comparable to the other brands.

I've used these pads for some time now with my Hayes HFX 9 brakes. After using the stock Hayes pads and other aftermarket pads, the Kool Stop pads have outperformed the others. These pads don't make noise and have a good life. I try to watch Amazon for the best price since it fluctuates.

The Kool Stop Pro-Max pads are different thicknesses, and they go in through the end cap rather than through the slot.

Put the thinner one in first (labelled "in") and then the thicker (labelled "out").

Reverse the end cap before screwing it back in; it's asymmetric to accomodate the thicker pad.

I assume when that pad wears down, you're supposed to reverse the cap again.

The pads work noticeably better than the originals.

The magnet on the end cap probably ought to be preserved in a baggie or something, rather than lost in the lawn.

1Does not fit Trek 3900 w/ Promax discMay 16, 2011
By Jeremy "Jeremy"
I was hoping this would fit from the reviews I read. But they didn't fit my Trek 3900 Disc Promax brakes. One side pad is to thick and wont fit unless all brake componets are all the way loosened and the rotor still rubs. Waste of money, not worth the time to send back.
